In a recent performance at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, Mick Jagger, the frontman of The Rolling Stones, made a pointed comment about Louisiana's conservative governor, Jeff Landry.

The remark came after the band's rendition of "You Can't Always Get What You Want," a song that seemed to set the stage for Jagger's political commentary.

Jagger, who is not a U.S. citizen and thus ineligible to vote in American elections, broached the topic of inclusivity. According to local news reports, he said, "We want to include him too," referring to Governor Landry, before adding, "Even if he wants to take us back to the Stone Age."

The specifics of Landry's policies were not addressed by Jagger. However, Landry, a Republican endorsed by former President Donald Trump, has been a controversial figure in Louisiana politics. Before assuming the governorship in January, he served as the state attorney general. His tenure has been marked by support for contentious conservative legislation, including a near-total abortion ban, restrictions on gender-affirming medical care for young transgender individuals, and increased penalties for criminal offenses.

In response to Jagger's comments, the 53-year-old governor took to social media. He posted, "You can't always get what you want. The only person who might remember the Stone Age is Mick Jagger. Love you buddy, you’re always welcome in Louisiana!" He concluded his post with the hashtag #LoveMyCountryMusic, a playful nod to the 80-year-old rock star's genre of choice.
