In a recent development, the Senate impeachment trial for Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, was dismissed on Wednesday, as reported by RedState.

The dismissal was led by Democrats, with Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) at the helm, who allegedly disregarded two centuries of Senate precedent in a bid to protect President Joe Biden's administration.

During the proceedings, Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) delivered a fervent speech, emphasizing that Mayorkas had been accused of impeachable offenses, including "knowingly making false statements." He questioned his colleagues, "If this is not a high crime and misdemeanor, what is? If this is not impeachable, what is? What precedent will we be setting?" His speech was interrupted by Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA), who attempted to silence him.

The decision to not proceed with the impeachment trial of Mayorkas has not been well-received by other Republican Senators, including Josh Hawley (MO). Hawley expressed his dissatisfaction during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Thursday, where Mayorkas was scheduled to testify.

Hawley focused on the murder case of 22-year-old Augusta University nursing student Laken Riley, allegedly committed by 26-year-old Venezuelan illegal immigrant Jose Antonio Ibarra. He used this case to highlight the adverse effects of the open border policies of Biden and Mayorkas, which he believes are causing harm and even death to Americans.

In response to Mayorkas' assurance that justice will be served in the case, Hawley retorted, "Hopefully he'll get more of a trial than you did." He further criticized Mayorkas and Biden, as well as every House and Senate Democrat who has supported their border policies.

Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) also confronted Mayorkas during a Senate Appropriations Committee hearing. He suggested that the porous nature of the country's borders could potentially benefit Democrats in terms of reapportionment. He stated, "It's a fact and I know it: that the more people you allow into our country illegally the more people are counted for reapportionment, and the more people that you allow into our country illegally the more people are counted for allocating electoral votes."

Kennedy continued his critique, saying, "The only people I know in this country who are better off today than they were four years ago are illegal immigrants," attributing this to Mayorkas' policies. He reminded Mayorkas of his impeachment, stating, "And my colleagues may try to cover it up, but they can't cover up the facts."

While Mayorkas may have avoided an impeachment trial, Republican Senators have made it clear that this does not mean he will be absolved of his actions. As Senate committee hearings continue, Mayorkas may find himself wishing for the trial to have taken place, if only to avoid the daily criticisms.
