The credibility of the data released by the Gaza Health Ministry, which operates under the influence of Hamas, has been called into question.

The ministry has been accused of inflating the death toll in the ongoing conflict with Israel, a claim that has been largely accepted by the media without scrutiny.

Recently, however, new information has emerged that suggests the data provided by the Gaza Health Ministry may not be as reliable as previously thought. As reported by our affiliate, Townhall, the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies (FDD) has quoted an admission from Hamas that the data was indeed inflated.

On April 6, the Gaza Health Ministry acknowledged that it had "incomplete data" for 11,371 of the 33,091 Palestinian fatalities it claimed to have recorded. According to the ministry, a record is considered incomplete if it lacks any of the following key data points: identity number, full name, date of birth, or date of death. This admission followed an earlier report released on April 3, in which the ministry acknowledged the incompleteness of 12,263 records. The reason for the decrease of more than 900 records within just three days remains unclear.

Before these admissions, the health ministry had asserted that the information in over 15,000 fatality records had been sourced from "reliable media sources." However, the ministry failed to identify these sources, and it is worth noting that there is no independent media in Gaza.

David Adesnik, Director of Research at FDD, noted on Twitter, "The sudden shifts in the ministry’s reporting methods suggest it is scrambling to prevent exposure of its shoddy work. For months, U.S. media have taken for granted that the ministry’s top-line figure for casualties was reliable enough to include in daily updates."

The FDD has also highlighted the discrepancy in the reported number of casualties following the bombing at the Al Ahli Arab Hospital. The ministry initially claimed that 500 people had been killed, a figure that was later disputed when evidence revealed that the bomb had hit a parking lot. A U.S. intelligence assessment estimated the death toll to be closer to 100.

The FDD further pointed out that the health ministry's data does not account for the impact of errant fire from Hamas that falls within Gaza. Joe Truzman, Senior Research Analyst at FDD’s Long War Journal, also noted that the ministry's figures do not fully address the number of Hamas terrorists killed in the conflict, which he estimates could be as high as 10,000.

The questionable reliability of these figures raises concerns about the liberal media's acceptance of this data without critical analysis. It also calls into question President Joe Biden's echoing of these figures, which contradicts his claim of "ironclad" support for Israel and the truth.

In light of these revelations, it is clear that the numbers provided by the Gaza Health Ministry are of questionable worth. The lack of scrutiny from the liberal media and the Biden administration only serves to perpetuate the propagation of potentially inaccurate information.
