A legal battle ensues following the tragic death of Angellyh Yambo, a 16-year-old student fatally shot near her South Bronx high school.

The family is taking action against the manufacturer of the untraceable gun used in the incident.

Yambo was killed on April 8, 2022, as she walked home from University Prep Charter High School, struck by a stray bullet from a Polymer80 ghost gun fired by Jeremiah Ryan, 19. The lawsuit, filed in Bronx County Supreme Court, accuses the manufacturer of negligence and violating state business laws.

In a heartfelt plea for justice, the court documents, filed on behalf of Yambo's mother, Yanely Henriquez, express the family's desire for safer Bronx streets, especially for the innocent and young. The lawyers argue that Polymer80's distribution of untraceable gun kits, allowing for easy assembly of handguns without background checks, contributed to Yambo's tragic death.

The lawsuit also implicates Ryan, who was sentenced to 15 years to life after pleading guilty to second-degree murder. Seeking unspecified damages, the legal action aims to hold those responsible to account for the devastating loss.

Yambo, remembered as a dedicated student and a kind-hearted individual, continues to be cherished by her mother, who vowed to fight for justice in her memory. Henriquez has since established a foundation in her daughter's honor, offering educational programs on self-defense, financial literacy, and anti-bullying initiatives for children.
