Coleman Hughes, a renowned independent author and podcast host, faced accusations of being a political pawn for the Right during his appearance on ABC's "The View".

The allegations stemmed from his stance on racial matters in the United States, as discussed in his book "The End of Race Politics: Arguments for a Colorblind America."

Sunny Hostin, a co-host on the show, challenged Hughes' advocacy for a society where individuals are treated without racial bias, labeling it as "fundamentally flawed."

Hostin attempted to counter Hughes' argument for a "color-blind" society, where equality is paramount, by citing Martin Luther King Jr.'s quotes.

Hostin stated, "So your argument for color-blindness, I think, is something that the Right has co-opted and so many in the black community, if I’m being honest with you, because I want to be, believe that you are being used as a pawn by the Right and that you’re a charlatan of sorts."

Alyssa Farah Griffin, another co-host and a contributor at CNN, came to Hughes' defense against the allegations, asserting, "He’s not a Republican!" Hostin, however, insisted that Hughes had identified himself as a "conservative," a claim Hughes refuted.

"I don’t think I’ve been co-opted by anyone. I’ve only voted twice — both for Democrats. I’m an independent," Hughes clarified. "I would vote for a Republican — probably a non-Trump Republican if they were compelling.

I don’t think there’s any evidence I’ve been co-opted by anyone and I think that’s an ad-hominem tactic people use to not address, really, the important conversations we’re having here. I think it’s better and it would be better for everyone if we stuck to the topics rather than make it about me without any evidence that I’ve been co-opted."

Hughes further emphasized, "No one is paying me to say what I’m saying. The reason I wrote this book is because, in the past 10 years, it has become very popular to, in the name of anti-racism, teach a kind of philosophy to our children, in general, that says your race is everything. And I think that is the wrong way to fight racism, and that’s why I wrote this book at this time."
