President Joe Biden and actor Mark Hamill, famed for his role as Luke Skywalker in the "Star Wars" series, faced a wave of derision on social media following their official "Star Wars Day" post.

The duo teamed up in the Oval Office earlier this week to celebrate May 4, a date fondly referred to as "Star Wars Day" by fans of the franchise. The commemoration was shared on President Biden's official presidential account on X, previously known as Twitter, where both Biden and Hamill extended Star Wars-themed greetings to the president's followers.

In the video, President Biden can be heard uttering the phrase, "May the fourth be with you," a playful twist on the iconic line from the Star Wars series, "May the force be with you." Hamill then made a surprise appearance, adding the word, "Always." The video quickly amassed over 3 million views within a few hours.

The caption accompanying the video read, "We had a very good feeling about this. May the 4th be with you, America," another nod to the beloved sci-fi series.

Hamill's participation in the video was hinted at during the White House press briefing on Friday when press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre introduced him to the reporters. Hamill took the opportunity to commend the legislative achievements of the current administration.

However, the goodwill gesture towards Star Wars fans was met with scorn from critics of the president on Saturday morning. Investigative reporter Drew Hernandez derided the video, stating, "Mark Hamill is shilling for Biden. This is peak cringe."

Brick Suit, a popular pro-Trump influencer, quipped, "The most hilarious thing is that Joe is in Delaware right now and has already forgotten he said this." Political commentator Brilyn Hollyhand criticized Biden for promoting such content amidst the ongoing turmoil on American college campuses.

"Terrorist sympathizers are shutting down college campuses and chanting ‘Death to America’ while tearing down American flags on American soil… Maybe tweet about that instead of Star Wars," he suggested.
