Recent polls and surveys have consistently painted a grim picture for President Biden's prospects of re-election in November, and the latest is no exception.

A significant portion of black voters, a demographic that played a crucial role in Biden's 2020 victory, are expressing dissatisfaction and may choose not to vote in the upcoming elections.

A new poll conducted by In Our Own Voice: National Black Women’s Reproductive Justice Agenda in collaboration with PerryUndem reveals that only 59% of black voters are 'almost certain' to vote this fall, with an additional 12% 'probably' voting. This suggests that approximately 40% of black voters are uncertain about participating in the 2024 elections.

This decline in black voter support could potentially swing the election in favor of Donald Trump. It is worth recalling how Biden secured his place in the White House. After losing the first two primaries in 2020, Biden received a crucial endorsement from Rep. Jim Clyburn, a highly influential black congressman from South Carolina. Clyburn's endorsement rallied black voters, leading to Biden's victory in the primary and subsequently eliminating other candidates, including Mayor Pete, who promptly endorsed Biden and now serves as his transportation secretary.

Biden's presidency has been marked by controversy and dissatisfaction. His economic policies and liberal government spending have led to increased inflation rates, affecting the cost of groceries, gas, utilities, rent, mortgage interest rates, housing prices, and more. As a result, 60% of Americans now live paycheck to paycheck.

The situation at the southern border has also been a point of contention. Critics argue that the Biden administration's lax border policies have led to an influx of crime in cities across the country, largely attributed to illegal immigrants. The surge of fentanyl across the border has also been linked to numerous American deaths.

The poll also revealed that 30% of respondents do not consider the upcoming elections important. Furthermore, Biden's stance on the Israel-Hamas conflict has alienated some potential supporters, with nearly 20% considering withholding their vote as an act of protest. This figure rises to 25% among younger voters.

Biden's handling of the Israel-Hamas conflict has divided black voters, with a third approving of his response, a third disapproving, and a third unsure. Pro-Hamas protesters have disrupted events featuring Biden, Kamala Harris, and other Democrats, particularly in battleground states like Michigan. If these protesters follow through with their threats of not supporting Biden, it could cost him the election.

The poll, which surveyed 1,000 black adults, also revealed a lack of enthusiasm among younger voters. Only 38% of voters aged 18 to 29 said they were almost certain to vote, while just 17% indicated they will probably vote. This means that nearly half of black voters in that age group are not committed to voting this cycle.

When asked if they had to vote immediately, just 44% of young black voters responded they would vote for Democrats. Of that group, 37% said they were unsure or they would not vote.

The upcoming election presents a stark contrast between Biden and Trump. While Biden's promises have largely fallen flat, Trump's pre-pandemic economy was booming and benefited every demographic. As the election draws closer, black voters will have to decide whether to stick with the status quo or take a chance on change.
