A transgender individual emerged victorious at the Masters National Weightlifting Championships held in Reno, Nevada, on March 24, clinching the top spot in the women’s 76-kilogram weight division.

Vicki Piper, aged 57, secured the championship title by outperforming the runner-up with a significant lead of 17 points, as highlighted by the event results.

Piper excelled in the snatch, lifting 56 kilograms (equivalent to 123 pounds), and the clean and jerk, hoisting 71 kilograms (approximately 156 pounds). In contrast, Krista Dornbush, the second-place finisher, managed 46 kilograms (around 101 pounds) in the snatch and 64 kilograms (about 141 pounds) in the clean and jerk.

Expressing gratitude for his triumph, Piper conveyed his appreciation to USA Weightlifting for organizing a well-executed and encouraging competition in Reno, Nevada. In an Instagram post, Piper acknowledged the support received and reflected on his inaugural championship experience.

USA Weightlifting recently implemented regulations permitting transgender athletes to compete, provided they can demonstrate a minimum of two years of hormone therapy to mitigate any gender-related competitive advantages.

Footage capturing one of Piper’s remarkable lifts showcased his exceptional strength and skill during the competition. Standing tall on the winner’s podium in the 55 and over age group, Piper stood prominently above his fellow competitors, symbolizing his achievement in the tournament.
