In a recent development, Payton McNabb, a former North Carolina high school volleyball player, criticized Democratic lawmakers for their stance on transgender athletes' participation in women's sports.

McNabb, who sustained severe physical and mental injuries after a transgender athlete struck a ball into her face during a 2022 volleyball tournament, challenged the assertion made by Democratic Representative Pramila Jayapal that transgender individuals pose no threat to female athletes.

Jayapal, who has a transgender child, stated during a House Judiciary Committee meeting, "It is a tiny portion of people across the country that identify as trans, and not a single one of them is doing anything to harm you or your family." McNabb, however, disagreed with this statement, saying, "Just getting back from my second doctor appointment this week, a year and a half later, I’m definitely going to have to disagree. My life is forever changed because of an injury by a boy."

The former athlete added, "So yeah… men have harmed women in our sports. But as long as your feelings don’t get hurt, right?" The committee was deliberating on a bill concerning the safety and fairness of biological men competing in women's sports, as per Republican Representative Greg Steube of Florida. Steube shared a clip of Jayapal's emotional comments, writing, "Men in women's sports haven’t harmed anyone?? I imagine @paytonmcnabb_ would disagree!"

Steube further commented, "This bill is about safety and fairness. How many more female athletes will be injured by men before the anti-women Democrats wake up?"

In the same hearing, Democratic Representative Jerry Nadler of New York made the controversial claim that "men do not compete in women's sports." Shortly after, HR 7187, the Protection of Women in Olympic and Amateur Sports Act, was approved by the committee. This act bars biological men from participating in women's sports teams.

Nadler stated, "Transgender women may compete in women's sports, it does no service to the truth or to the human biology or understanding of human biology that there's no such thing as transgender women, or for that matter transgender men." He added, "We know that people did not ask to be born transgender, no more than of us have to be born male or female, they were just born that way."

McNabb responded to Nadler's comments, labeling him as "delusional." She wrote, "Come on now, Jerry, you know that ain’t true! Everyone can see right through your delusion." McNabb further stated, "Your statement is a slap in the face to every female athlete that has suffered from this insane issue."
