The Park County Coroner's Office has identified the body found in the woods near an abandoned car as that of 17-year-old student Austin Lyle, the suspect in the Colorado High School shooting.

According to the Coroner's Office, Lyle's next of kin have been notified, and an autopsy is scheduled. The town’s residents were ordered to shelter in place while a search was conducted for the suspect.

On Wednesday morning, in a routine safety check, Lyle’s belongings were searched. At that point, he grabbed a handgun and fired several shots, wounding two administrators at East High School in Denver.

According to the police chief, the student had been searched before the incident, and the shooting occurred in the office, away from other students and faculty. The incident highlights the importance of adhering to safety protocols in schools and prioritizing the safety of students, faculty, and staff.

Denver Mayor Michael Hancock stated that the school is committed to students, faculty, and staff safety. Denver Public Schools Superintendent Alex Marrero reported that Lyle had been transferred to the school from another district in January. In light of the incident, two armed officers will be stationed at the school for the remainder of the school year, and classes at East High School will be canceled for the rest of the week.
