The woman who tragically lost her life in a fall during a graduation ceremony at Ohio State University has been identified as 53-year-old Larissa Brady.

The Franklin County Coroner’s Office confirmed her identity through fingerprint analysis.

The unfortunate incident occurred around 12.25pm on Sunday, amidst the influx of students for the graduation ceremony in Columbus, Ohio. Brady was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel, as reported by 10WBNS. Despite the tragic event, the graduation ceremony proceeded as scheduled.

An Ohio State spokesperson informed The Independent, “Tragically, an individual fell from the stands and is deceased. We have no additional details to share at this time.” The spokesperson also assured that counseling and other support resources would be made available for those affected by the incident.

The Independent has sought further comment from the Ohio State University Police Department. The stadium was filled with approximately 12,500 students at the time of the incident. A reporter from The Columbus Dispatch, present at the event, noted that some students were visibly distressed.

The graduation ceremonies at Ohio State University followed weeks of on-campus protests related to the Gaza conflict, mirroring similar demonstrations across US colleges. In Indiana, some students chose to walk out of their graduation ceremony on Saturday, while pro-Palestinian protesters disrupted the ceremony at the University of Michigan.

In Columbus, Melissa Shivers, Ohio State’s senior vice president of student life, urged for a day of uninterrupted focus on the graduates. “Today is a day for focusing on and celebrating our graduates,” she stated, as reported by the Dispatch.
