In the aftermath of the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse in Baltimore, Maryland, a fifth victim's body has been retrieved from the wreckage.

The Key Bridge Response Unified Command reported that the body was discovered following the location of a missing construction vehicle submerged in the Patapsco River, as per FOX 5 Washington DC.

The Maryland Department of State Police was promptly informed by the salvage teams. The deceased was identified as Miguel Angel Luna Gonzalez, 49, a resident of Glen Burnie.

Colonel Roland L. Butler, Jr., the Superintendent of the Maryland Department of State Police, expressed his condolences in a press statement. "We remain dedicated to the ongoing recovery operations while knowing behind each person lost in this tragedy lies a loving family,” he said. “Along with our local, state and federal partners, we ask that everyone extend their deepest sympathies and support to the families during this difficult time.”

This recovery comes in the wake of the Sri Lanka-bound Dali container ship colliding with the Key Bridge on March 26, resulting in its collapse and the death of six workers.

The Unified Command reported that multiple agencies, including the Maryland State Police Department’s underwater recovery team and the FBI, were instrumental in retrieving the body from the water. A fourth victim was found at the site on April 15.

Colonel Butler acknowledged the gravity of the situation, stating, “As we mourn the lives lost and continue the recovery operation, we recognize each missing individual is someone’s beloved friend or family member.”

On the fateful night of March 26, two workers were rescued from the water, while six were reported missing. All but one of the missing workers have been recovered, presumed dead.
