In a recent development, Rebecca Lavrenz, a 71-year-old great-grandmother from Colorado Springs, was convicted on misdemeanor charges related to her participation in the events at the Capitol Building on January 6, 2021.

The verdict, which has sparked controversy, was criticized by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who deemed it "not right."

Lavrenz, who owns a bed and breakfast and has no prior criminal record, had driven across the country to partake in the 'Stop the Steal' rally in Washington, DC. She found herself amidst a crowd entering the Capitol after spending time praying outside the building with fellow rally attendees.

The jury's decision elicited a response from Senator Mike Lee (R-AZ), who took to social media to express his views. "She needs prayers…and then a presidential pardon," he posted.

The potential repercussions for Lavrenz are severe, with a possible prison sentence of up to a year and fines exceeding $200,000. The jury's deliberation period, which lasted nearly 26 hours, was notably longer than most related to the January 6 cases. Lavrenz had testified in her defense for five hours before the jury began their deliberations.

Surveillance footage from the Capitol Building showed Lavrenz peacefully wandering the premises and conversing with a Capitol Police Officer. She informed the FBI that she had spent a mere 10 minutes inside the building, a claim supported by cell phone data.

The charges against Lavrenz include entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds, disorderly conduct in a Capitol Building, and parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol Building.

In a poignant video shared on social media prior to her trial, an emotional Lavrenz expressed her disbelief at her situation. "My own country is treating me like a criminal just because I believe that they stole my rightful president. I was just standing up for my country, it makes me a criminal. And it's just not right, it feels so weird to be here. Over three years ago I was here," she said.
