In a tragic turn of events, Timothy Kildee, brother of Michigan Congressman Dan Kildee, was fatally shot in a domestic dispute, as reported by the local police.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Congressman Kildee, a Democrat who has served in Congress since 2013, expressed his family's profound grief. "Our family is grieving and heartbroken. There are no words to describe the loss of a beloved brother and family member, especially in such a terrible tragedy," he said. He also thanked the community for respecting his family's privacy during this challenging time.

According to Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson, the incident unfolded in the early hours of March 19 in Vienna Township, northwest of Detroit. As reported by WNEM, a domestic dispute erupted in Burton around 3 a.m., involving a 27-year-old family member. The suspect reportedly brandished a firearm during a verbal altercation at the house before leaving on foot.

Sheriff Swanson further detailed that the suspect contacted his biological mother following the initial confrontation. She subsequently picked him up and drove him to the home of his father, Timothy Kildee, 57. However, the suspect exited the moving vehicle, leading his mother and Mr. Kildee to search for him.

Another son of Mr. Kildee, who was asleep in the basement of the Vienna Township home, reported hearing a heated argument upstairs. According to WNEM, he heard the suspect demand, "Give me your wallet and your keys." The wallet was later found in the suspect's possession.

The son in the basement also reported hearing a single gunshot during the argument, which, according to Sheriff Swanson, was the fatal shot that claimed Mr. Kildee's life.

The suspect allegedly fled the scene in Mr. Kildee's car, only to crash into another vehicle within eight minutes. While the other driver escaped serious injury, the suspect is currently under guard at Hurley Hospital.

Sheriff Swanson confirmed there are no other suspects in the case. Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton told WNEM that while no charges have been filed yet, the suspect could potentially face charges including open murder, carjacking, armed robbery, using a firearm during the commission of a felony, carrying a concealed weapon, and a motor vehicle violation, based on the current facts of the case.
