In an unprecedented move, Fredericksen Hardware, a San Francisco-based store, has resorted to escorting customers during their shopping experience in a bid to curb rampant shoplifting.

The store has been grappling with audacious thefts over recent months, leading to substantial financial losses.

The store, nestled on Filmore Street, implemented the escorting policy three weeks ago. Sam Black, a seasoned employee with over two decades of service at the store, revealed that the decision was triggered by a surge in theft incidents. Now, customers are required to queue for assistance upon arrival, after which a store employee guides them to their desired items.

"We've never had to resort to such measures before. Even during the COVID pandemic, we didn't have to do this. A customer walks in, and we assist them throughout the entire process," Black shared with CBS SF Bay Area.

Black conceded that the stringent policy has deterred some regular customers and impacted sales, as customers can no longer freely browse the store at their leisure.

Upon entering the store, customers are greeted by a sign on a white fold-up table that reads: "Due to rampant shoplifting, Fredericksen has introduced a one-on-one shopping experience. Wait here and a clerk will be right with you to help you with all your shopping needs. We're sorry for the inconvenience!"

Despite the inconvenience, Black was adamant that the decision was necessary, criticizing the city's lawlessness under Democrat leadership. "It's just been lawlessness. Nothing's stopping them from stealing. And with the felony threshold being so high, I've never seen anything like this, not even close," Black lamented.

According to Black, thieves would brazenly enter the store, vandalize, and steal entire displays. While the new policy may be inconvenient for law-abiding customers, Black confirmed that it has been effective, with no major incidents reported since its implementation.

Black expressed his longing for a return to normalcy, stating, "I just want it to be boring and normal."

The hardware store intends to maintain the policy for at least the next month, but Black affirmed that they would extend it as necessary to deter the audacious thieves.
