Goop CEO and founder Gwyneth Paltrow is the latest Hollywood celebrity investing in the cannabis industry. The actress-turned-wellness guru just announced she's backing Cann, an cannabis-infused beverage maker.

Paltrow calls cannabis a "hero ingredient of the future" for wellness and says she was drawn to Cann's drinks, which are infused with small doses of THC and CBD, as an appealing alternative to alcohol. "There's a whole sober-curious movement that's going on and the cannabis-curious movement that's going on, this is kind of at the intersection of those things in a way," said Paltrow.

It's the first time Paltrow is speaking about a personal investment in the cannabis industry, though Cann is not the first company in the space she's backed. Financial terms of the Cann deal were not disclosed.

By endorsing Cann, Paltrow appears to be following in the footsteps of Martha Stewart, who recently launched a line of CBD gummies with Canopy Growth. Paltrow — with her 7.5 million Instagram followers and Goop's 1.5 million Instagram followers and 2.5 million monthly podcast listeners — lends a hefty name to the fledgling cannabis industry, which she believes will become mainstream.

"We're very clearly and definitively moving in the direction of cannabis being legalized, and I think it should be," said Paltrow.
